Now that Universal Pictures has the reigns on Alpha Dog -- something New Line recently handed over
-- the film now has a new trailer, a release date and a new poster. Well,
we don't have the new poster just yet.
Alpha Dog Trailer
A drama based on the life of Jesse James Hollywood, a drug dealer who became one of the youngest men ever to be on the FBI's most wanted list.
Directed by Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook), Alpha
Dog is the story of a young drug dealer named Johnny Truelove along
with his friend Frankie who kidnap Zack Mazursky, the younger brother of
a guy who has unpaid debts with Johnny and his crew. Though Zack is a mark,
he forgets that he has been taken prisoner due to new friends, drinking
and girls. Even though he has multiple opportunities to run, Zack remains
under the custody of Johnny. Unfortunately, Zack does not know the fatal
conclusion that awaits him.
The new trailer for the film takes a different approach than the ones from
New Line; less emotion and more pop. New Line wins this round, but at least Universal gave us a release.
Now that Universal has this film, it looks like
things have been set straight again. As if some kind of miracle, Alpha
Dog has been able to keep positive buzz and remain on the CanMag
Top Ten; after dropping off once.

Alpha Dog now has a release date set for January
12th, 2007.
