Like his treatment from ex-master Malfoy, the infamous house-elf, Dobby, can't seem to get any love from Warner Bros. After Dobby made his grand appearance in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Warner Bros has scratched the character out of every following installment.
House elves continue to get no appreciation; take Winky for instance.
Dobby Out of Harry Potter and the Order of the
Phoenix
We get it, JK Rowling made every installment longer than the last, making each additional adaptation more difficult to pull off. Items must be cost and Dobby has become one of those items. The only problem for OotP is that Dobby does have a sizable role in the book, something that David Yates is going to have to fill in.
The good people over at MTV have recently caught up with the voice of Dobby, Toby Jones, and have confirmed Dobby's non-existence.
Dobby hasn't appeared in any Potter films since and won't be appearing in the upcoming "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" either, according to Toby Jones, the actor who voiced him in the series' second installment.
"I know that the filmmakers have a problem with each new film because the books are getting longer — there's so much to include in them," Jones remarked.
David Yates must now find a common character to replace Dobby in OotP or do a few minor story tweaks. In the book, it is Dobby who both divulges to Harry the secret of the Room of Requirement (where Harry and the other members of "Dumbledore's Army" meet to practice forbidden defensive spells), and materializes to warn Harry that his secret hideout is no longer safe from the prowling eyes of the increasingly powerful Ministry of Magic informant (and new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher), Dolores Umbridge.
The house elves are not entirely out, as Order of the Phoenix will introduce us to that SOB of an elf, Kreacher.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens
to theatres on July 13th, 2007.
