Venom is the equivalent to Spider-Man, but stronger.
Sam Raimi confirms that a Spider-Man villain
has been chosen. But before we get too much into that, lets see the possibilities
left open after the sequel.
Spider-Man 3 villains
Lets go back a year and remember all of the options that Sam Raimi left
open for the next Spider-Man villain. First, we are introduced to Peter
Parker's teacher in Spider-Man 2 [you know, the professor who is missing
an arm and teaches the class Peter is always late for]. The teacher, Dr.
Curt Conners, has an obsession for regaining the arm he had last during
"the War." Conners obsession becomes reality when he discovers
the reptilian ability to regenerate limbs. Conners' soon creates a serum
that proves successful on regrowing limbs on lab animals. In his excitement,
Dr. Conners swallows down a beaker full himself, causing the side effect
of him becoming "The Lizard."
While we do not see all this in the film, the character has been introduced.
But we also have the 2nd Green Goblin as well. The Harry Osborn becomes
the 2nd Green Goblin after discovering his father's lair. Harry suffers
from a selective amnesia similar to his father's, as he rarely remembers
acting as the Green Goblin. Harry, on the other hand, is much stronger than
his father as he uses a newer, and more potent, version of the strength
serum. However, the stronger strength serum has its own side effects, effects
which later kill Harry Osborn.
Ok, here is the last character I was hoping would appear in the next Spider-Man--
Venom! Peter Parker discovers a liquid organism from outer space that could
form fit to his body and make any costume that Parker had ever wanted [even
normal clothes]. The liquid also made Parker stronger, but not without side
effects. The best comparison for the liquid is to that of steroids, as it
causes the user to grow mad and go into fits of rage. Parker soon realized
this and was able to rid himself of the material. However, the material
is later picked up by none other than Eddie Brock [a name mentioned in Spider-Man
2], who is always in competition with Parker. To make matters worst,
the liquid was able to copy the Spider-Man powers, allowing Eddie Brock
to perform with the same abilities as Spider-Man. Hence, Eddie Brock soon
becomes a very angry version of Spider-Man as Venom.
So, who does Sam Raimi say will play the next Spider-Man villain?
He doesn't! According to Sam Raimi:
Alvin Sargent is writing the screenplay right
now... I’m not supposed to [talk about the villain]. When Sony Pictures
decides to release the villain they do it in conjunction with Marvel Comic
books. Avi Arad is the president there and my producer, and they’re really
the ones that decide how they’re going to present this to the fans of the
comic and they love doing it with a lot of drama and a big splash. So they
consult with me, but it’s really something… they really want to please the
fans and do it in a very particular way
I will say this again, please let it be Venom! And can we please have some
people actually die like in the comic books [Parker loses girl friends]?
