Lionsgate spent the entire month of August releasing special posters not only to promote Saw III, but the blood drive they were holding in honor of Saw III. You can get a preview of the poster to the right or check them all out here, here and here.
Now they have gone one step further. In a twisted move I only thought capable by the pairing of Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton, Lionsgate has taken a vial of Jigsaw's (Tobin Bell) blood and plans to make posters out of it.
A poster that has the risk of giving you Hepatitis C? I dig it!
Saw III Blood Poster
According to Variety, A vial of blood from Saw star Tobin Bell -- who plays the villain Jigsaw -- was mixed with red ink and printed on a poster for the next installment in the horror franchise.
Lionsgate also will hold blood drives in conjunction with the Oct. 27 opening of Saw III, as it has for previous openings in the series.
Tim Palen, Lionsgate's marketing honcho, had this to say on the poster:
"We decided to do a poster and he's wearing a red cloak. I was talking to the printer and asked what we could do to get the deepest blood red. I asked if it would be possible to use actual blood. There was silence. He said, 'We could try, but are you serious?' I said I was dead serious."
Though a marketing move like this is new to the studios, it has been done before. Adidas gathered blood from each player of the New Zealand rugby team, the All Blacks, for a poster to be given away when fans buy a $70 team jersey. Each poster supposedly comes with a certificate of authenticity; and possibly a blood type?
Saw III comes to theatres on October 27th.
