More Positives for Pans and Fountain

The Fountain The Fountain
Not that moviegoers need any further convincing, but The Fountain and Pan's Labyrinth both remain to be some of the hottest films coming our way to close out 2006.

Yes, The Fountain did get booed at one screening, but it is bouncing back.

Reminder: The Fountain and Pan's Labyrinth Are Good

The good people over at AICN have received another set of early reviews for both Pan's Labyrinth and The Fountain. Like the many reviews before them, both films get praise.

Pan's Labyrinth
Pretty much everyone so far has said it is a masterpiece, and I’m not going to argue.

What struck me the most (besides the expertly told story, the fantastic actors who some other reviewer will probably analyse with more expertise, and the beautiful art direction, make-up, effects, and cinematography) was how everything seemed so controlled, so planned, so… I hesitate to use the word perfect. But every shot is exquisitely framed, and nothing, absolutely nothing in this film goes to waste. Every moment has meaning (although I wouldn’t go looking for it while you watch it) and every scene is utterly important for the film as a whole.

The Fountain
This is, without a doubt, one of if not the best piece of work Jackman has done. To watch him carry this film is pure pleasure. I can never again see him only as Wolvie anymore. Rachel Weisz is stunning as always but for me she could have been better. Mind you, it’s Jackman we are watching mostly and he gets the best scenes. A surprise was seeing Ellen Burstyn in this film. I didn’t know she was in it. Burstyn is good with the short amount of work given to her here. As is, Ethan Suplee and Sean Patrick Thomas.

I think most people have to see this film. I can’t say any more then that.

The Fountain comes to theatres on November 22nd.

Pan's Labrinth will have a limited release on December 29th.

Stay tuned for updates.
