Though Paramount has been working overtime to keep us up to date with the upcoming war drama Flags of Our Fathers from Clint Eastwood, Warner Bros has been less than johnny on the spot with the film's companion piece -- Letters from Iwo Jima.
No, no poster just yet -- and Warner Bros loves posters -- but at least the studio has finally got a release pegged.
Letters from Iwo Jima in 2007
According to Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that they will open the Japanese-language film, Letters from Iwo Jima, in February 9th, 2007.
Initial buzz figured Iwo Jima would shoot for a December release to catch the closing window for the Academy Awards. Now it will be Flags who gets all the attention (this year). The film will still open in Japan on December 9th however.
Warner Bros and Eastwood decided that February was the best time to open Letters from Iwo Jima domestically. The stalled release will give the film a chance to build upon both the success of Flags and the Japanese opening.
Warner Bros had it planned from the beginning to allow Iwo Jima play first over in Japan.
While Flags of Our Fathers gives us the story of Iwa Jima from an American perspective, Letters will give us a new take from a side we once considered our enemy.
