Marie Antoinette
Don’t get too excited, guys. The most you actually see in Marie Antoinette is a butt, but you think you see more. Many shots of Kirsten Dunst as the queen are framed with the naughty parts just obscured. DVD viewers will surely spend many lonely nights trying to freeze frame one tiny slip of the lens, but Coppola just includes nudity without exploiting it.
Coppola and Dunst on Marie Antoinette Nudity
“I don't know, it just seems like an element in life so you try to incorporate it in a way that I guess I’m not looking at her in a sexual objecting way so maybe it has a more innocent quality or something,” she said. “I don't know, I don’t really think about it. I just try to incorporate all the elements that I think the story should have.”

That approach is what made Dunst feel comfortable on set, even though she avoids any other roles that involve nudity. “Sophia doesn’t make a big deal about it so you’re like ‘okay,’” Dunst said. “She’s like, ‘It’s fine.’. Also it was appropriate and of course I was a little giggly and funny about it. I felt comfortable and everyone was really cool about it with me. I never felt too weird or anything like that. It wasn’t a big deal.”
Marie Antoinette opens this Friday, October 20th.
