Eddie Murphy
Now I know what you're thinking. Somehow the title Starship Dave sounds all too similar to Pluto Nash; and we all know how that turned out. This latest project from Fox, however, could be the third step towards Murphy's comeback.
Eddie Murphy for Starship Dave
Brian Robbins and Eddie Murphy must have really hit it off on the set of Norbit. With a positive response to the film's first trailer, Murphy and Robbins have decided to get together for a second time.
According to Variety, 20th Century Fox has picked up Murphy and helmer Robbins for Starship Dave, a film that is currently in pre-production at the studio. The script was originally handed to Murphy but, thanks to his new relationship with Robbins, he passed it on.
Robbins comes in at just the right time after Pete Segal left the project due to scheduling conflicts with Get Smart, something he is doing for Warner Bros.
Starship Dave is the story of a crew of miniature, human-looking aliens who are seeking a way to save their doomed world. Murphy will play the human spacecraft they travel in (Starship Dave) as well as the ship's captain.
Whereas Norbit is more a "fairy tale -- it has its own little world that we created," Robbins said -- Starship Dave is "more of a fish-out-of-water movie."
Starship Dave is scheduled to begin shooting in March. If you want a prediction on how the film is going to turn out, just check out Norbit in February.
The Shrek franchise -- Murphy's continuous first step -- has kept this actor afloat.
Stay tuned for updates.
