With its first release on December 8th, one had
to wonder when Warner Bros was going to get crackin' with some new updates
for The Good German.
Being Warner Bros, we are still a little shocked that the film has been
limited to a single poster; with a cast this big there are unlimited possibilities.
Instead of a new poster, however, Warner Bros has finally delivered the
goods. But do we like what we see?
The Good German Movie Poster
Based on the novel by Joseph Kanon, The
Good German takes place in the ruins of post-WWII Berlin, where U.S.
Army war correspondent Jake Geismar (George Clooney) becomes embroiled with
Lena Brandt (Cate Blanchett), a former lover whose missing husband is the
object of a manhunt by both the American and Russian armies. Intrigue mounts
as Jake tries to uncover the secrets Lena may be hiding in her desperation
to get herself and her husband out of Berlin. Tully (Tobey Maguire), a soldier
in the American army motor pool assigned to drive Jake around Berlin, has
black market connections that may be Lena's way out -- or lead them all
into even darker territory.
Though I am still having trouble meshing with the story, the trailer looks
pretty slick in its black & white presentation. I don't know if George
Clooney thinks the medium brings out his eyes, but he seems to excel without
color. Besides Clooney, Tobey Maguire looks up to par and Kate Blanchett,
well, is pretty creepy with her new accent.
The smoke effects (near the beginning and end)
and the dramatic music definitely add to the trailer; though I am not sure
how much the story.
