With Ridley Scott at the helm, this could be a kick ass film. Just call
it Aliens 5.
Some time back [about an entire issue], we talked
about the possibility of a Halo
movie. Well, it seems that the idea has gained some steam and
rumor might just become reality.
Halo Has Alex Garland
It has recently been reported that Alex Garland has been signed on [with
Microsoft] to create a script for a Halo movie at an estimated
one million dollars. Alex Garland is probably best known [recently] for
his script on the film 28 Days Later. After the first-draft [God
knows how many re-writes for this one], Microsoft plans on auctioning off
the film to all the major studios. Judging by the popularity of the Halo
games for X-Box [which will both make a combined amount up to one-billion
dollars], it should not be that hard to convince a study that a Halo
movie has potential, even with only a first draft from Alex Garland.
One thing to be certain, Microsoft will probably attempt to keep a lot of
control of the story and those involved with the film. What does this mean?
Well, for one, expect a good director [Ridley Scott has been mentioned]
to take the reigns for Halo. Considering it is going to be hard
to make a character driven story for Halo, as the X-Box players
know absolutely nothing about Master Chief [except that he kicks ass], I
doubt that once a script is written for the film Microsoft will not be allowing
too many edits to be made.
Remember, starting with the turn of the century it has begun to take video
games much longer to create than even the largest blockbuster films. Microsoft
understands this, and should be patient enough to not go forward with a
Halo film until they know they have a good product; which should
be a relief to gamers everywhere.
Now lets just hope that there are no cheaters
in the movie. Stay tuned for updates.
