An introduction to the porn industry.
For all you young kids out there who are just coming to terms with the fact that the internet is really a pornography database, or all you savvy porn-er's, its time for a little history lesson. Feb. 11, 2005 marks the theatrical release date of a documentary film that examines a low budget independent film that started an industry.
Love with Deep Throat
Inside Deep Throat takes a look at the 1972 phenomena, Deep
Throat, which stared Linda Lovelace-and we all know whom she is. "Released
at the very moment when the nations movements for sexual liberation, equal
rights and counter-cultural values were reaching a fever pitch, this sexually
explicit film unexpectedly became the flashpoint for an unprecedented social
and political firestorm-a major cultural phenomenon whose impact continues
to affect us today," so say the films official site. Whether you like or
dislike pornography, you have to admit that this film almost single-handedly
changed our culture; it was on us as citizens to welcome it, however the
film was still made and distributed. Oh, and just calling it the largest
grossing independent film ever, doesn't seem to be enough. I'd say we welcomed
it with open… arms-the film cost $25,000 to make and has earned $600 million
dollars to date.
