50 Cent
Buddy cop dramas and thrillers have always had a niche at the box office. Take the Lethal Weapon franchise for example. The first film kicks off by pairing the most unlikely of partners and resolves the situation by having them become closer and closer friends over the course of events. Solid story telling.
Sticking with the idea of 'unlikely' partners, the latest cop thriller is looking to pair up Robert De Niro and 50 Cent. Could partnerships be any stranger? Well, yes, think about if it was 50 Cent and Deep Roy (the Oompa Loompa from Burton's Chocolate Factory). Now that's strange.
De Niro and 50 Cent for New Orleans
Robert De Niro and 50 Cent are in final negotiations to co-star in New Orleans, a cop thriller previously titled Microwave Park.
Tim Hunter will direct.
The film centers on a cop who thinks his partner has died in Hurricane Katrina, only to discover that he was shot to death. When he gets a new partner, the pair investigates the murder, taking them on a journey into a world of the only corruption to exist in this sort of genre -- police corruption.
De Niro is attached to play the lead with 50 Cent in the role of his new partner.
The project was originally set in Los Angeles but switched to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Filming is scheduled to begin in the city February.
