Sacha Baron Cohen for Dinner With Schmucks
It looks like Sacha Baron Cohen is looking to do more than films based off his Ali G characters. Already signed up with Universal for Bruno -- though I think that is a trick -- Cohen is now eyeing a starring role in the remake of the French hit, Le Diner de cons, titled Dinner With Schmucks.
DreamWorks has brought on David Guion and Michael Handelman to work on the script. The duo was responsible for the Used Guys script and recently wrote the screenplay to the Zach Braff-Amanda Peet romantic comedy Fast Track. Used Guys was set to enter production until Fox pulled the plug due to budget concerns.
Cohen, who has only recently reached true stardom thanks to Borat, has actually been attached to the project for several years as it went through a slew of different writers.
In the original film, a Paris publisher urges his friends to invite the most pathetic people possible to his weekly dinner party. In the English-language remake, Cohen would play a guest so full of "schmuckiness" that he ruins the lives of anyone who comes into his orbit.
At the moment Cohen continues to concentrate on Borat, which Fox has set to expand to a wider release next week.
