The TV spot was enough to convince 20th Century Fox that their battle for early July was over.
I am assuming that most people who saw the War
of the Worlds Super Bowl spot were pretty impressed. My
thoughts exactly-- 'what the hell... sweet.' While I still have yet to see
some aliens, I did get to see some aliens blow some shit up; which is a
fine compromise for me. Did anyone notice Tom Cruise's teeth? Did he get
caps or something? Anywho, it seems that other film companies, specifically
20th Century Fox, saw the trailer and were like 'shit! can't have anything
run against that!'. Let me tell you what I mean.
Fantastic 4 is No Longer July 4th
With War of the Worlds coming out on July 29th, meaning only six
days till the Fantastic
Four release, 20th Century Fox figured that revenue would
be wasted if they tried to have one of their flag ships, Fantastic Four,
compete with it. So, the only solution was to push Fantastic Four
back to July 8th [is the first Fantastic trailer a collectors now?].
However, Fantastic Four will still face a little competition [though
not nearly as much] from Sony's Bewitched,
starring Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman.
