Unless in a coma, every moviegoer should know Hugh Jackman's name by the end of 2006. Making his debut as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, Jackman has proven himself to be a top-notch actor and is expected to reach a whole new level of theatrics with the upcoming Aronofsky fantasy The Fountain.
With two films down in two months -- The Prestige and The Fountain -- Jackman is working on his next blockbusters.
Hugh Jackman for The Amateur
Like most actors who get big, Jackman has a production company under the title Seed Prods. The actor has recently made a pact with Fox 2000 -- where his production company hangs out -- to adapt Robert Littell's spy novel, The Amateur, into a live-action starring vehicle.
24 executive producer, Evan Katz, will write the script and Jackman will take the dual role of lead and producer.
Jackman will play a CIA cryptographer whose fiancee is killed in a suspicious plane crash. When he discovers that the plane was brought down by terrorists, he finds the leverage that forces his bosses to train him to exact revenge.
Though Littell's novel was already adapted into a film back when I was only making my first appearance in this world (1981), the new version is far from a remake. Jackman instead plans to create a different version using the novel as source material.
Thanks to Jackman's close relationship with Fox, he has set up quite a few projects with the studio including The Rebound Guy, Carousel and the spin-off Wolverine.
Jackman also has a few other projects on his to-do list including The Tourist with Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams, and an untitled epic from Baz Luhrmann with Nicole Kidman.
It is unknown when The Amateur will enter production.
