Fanboys
Though one would assume that
Fox and Lucasfilm own the rights to any film that would even suggest Star
Wars, The Weinstein Company are taking a more realistic Spaceballs
approach as they parody the franchise through a teenage adventure,
Fanboys.
Fanboys Trailer
"Fanboys is a comedy about friends, fans and delusions of grandeur. Fanboys
takes place in the fall of 1998, a time when everything was pure and Star
Wars ruled the world once again. We follow four life-long best
friends who travel cross-country in an attempt to break into George Lucas'
Skywalker Ranch. Their mission is to see Star Wars Episode I
early when they discover one of the young men in their group is diagnosed
with terminal cancer and will not live long enough to see the film in theaters
the following May. This film expresses what it means to care about something
so truly that you would do anything for it… what it means to be a fan. This
is a film for the fans, made by the fans. "
As the synopsis from director Kyle Newman suggests, the film will most likely
attract moviegoers who are fans of the Star Wars franchise.
Fortunately, that group consists of a lot of moviegoers. The trailer for
Fanboys shows a film that looks like The
Girl Next Door but, instead of a girl, they have Luke Skywalker,
Han Solo, George Lucas and everything else from the Star Wars
universe (stormtroopers!). The only problem is that this universe isn't
exactly next door, and a group of friends must go on an adventure filled
with Star Trek rivalries and Star Wars
parodies to see the first installment of the new trilogy early.
If you are a fan of the franchise, the trailer for Fanboys
does feature more than a few chuckle-filled scenes that parody some of your
favorite Star Wars moments. Let's just hope that there
are more of these scenes then there are, well, others.

WM).
Fanboys will have a theatrical release some time
in 2007.
