Penn, formerly known as Kumar, will join forces with Lex Luthor in Superman
I had first heard word from SuperheroHype
that all of the Superman characters have been cast. Well, this
doesn't seem to be the case [it has not been confirmed in the slightest],
but it has been confirmed that the White Castle star, Kal Penn,
will have a role in Superman.
And, No, he will not be Clark's best friend like expected.

I don't know if I am going to be able to take Kal Penn as a bad guy too
seriously; Riley will join forces with Lex Luthor. This is the dude from
Van Wilder and Harold and Kumar go to White Castle for
christ sake. Anywho, I was actually pretty excited about the first Superman
casting update which claimed the following:
Kal Penn as Riley, Lex Luthor's sidekick
Famke Janssen as Lora, Superman's birth mother
Daniel Day-Lewis as Jor-El
Jude Law as General Zod
Kevin Bacon as John Corbin
Barry Pepper as a Daily Planet reporter

While this is a GREAT cast list, nothing on it has been confirmed except
for the fact that Penn will be Riley. This was stated by Mira Nair [directing
Namesake, Penn's current project] over at Riley:
Kal's film 'Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle'
was a hit and all the 13-year-olds in America know and love him," she said.
"'Namesake' will be his first dramatic role. He is an extraordinary actor.
He has just signed on as Superman's best friend in the new movie called
'Superman Returns'. As soon as he finishes shooting for Namesake, he will
shoot for that. So by the time 'Namesake' comes out next year, everyone
will know Kal Penn, which will be great for us!
Notice that she was incorrect on Penn's role, as he will NOT be Superman's best friend. But I do hope she is right on
everything else.
