Superman gets angered by Brainiac's "hump crush." He promised he'd be gentle.
Now that a sequel for Superman Returns has gotten past the first phase, aka the green light, Singer and company have begun thinking up whose ass Superman can kick next.
Next Superman Villain Brainiac?
Our very own Fred Topel recently scooped to Rotten Tomatoes a conversation with both Bryan Singer and Brandon Routh on new ideas for the next Superman installment. Since Singer has promised us loads of action, we need somebody who will deliver; and that will not be Lex Luthor.
"There's a lot of talk about Brainiac," said Routh. "Everyone wants to see Braniac. But I'll tell you what, in the video game 'Superman Returns,' you can play as Bizarro. Bizarro's pretty fun. I would lean towards one of those. Brainiac, there's a lot of possibilities there. He's another mastermind villain so he can create any number of evil things."
Brainiac was created from the mind of Otto Binder and first appeared in the Superman comic back in 1958. Bald and green, Brainiac ws one of the most intelligent villains in the DC universe and had the ability to manipulate electrical systems, possess others and control space and time. So, when Superman brings a beating, Brainiac can hit the rewind button and see where he went wrong. His very own Tivo if you will.
Even with the boost of action, Singer is hoping to keep this Superman installment shorter than Returns. Two hours and seven minutes to be exact. Wow, that's thinking ahead! Any chance of him keeping this promise once entering the editing room? Yeah, and Superman bathes in kyrptonite.
