Watchmen. Purchase from Amazon
About a few years ago, the movie industry began
to understand that comic book adaptations were king. Soon after, we had
a comic revival that created comic to film adaptations such as X-Men,
X-Men United, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, DareDevil,
Elektra,
Hulk, Hellboy, Blade, Blade II, and
Blade Trinity.
Now, we continue down that stretch with Spider-Man 3, X-Men
3, Superman,
and Fantastic Four
films all in the works. But does it end here, or are we taking this new
obsession one step further-- graphic novels.
Graphic Novels to Film- A Step Passed Comics
First off, graphic novels are very similar to comics. However, the novels
usually contain a deeper story [considering the amount of pages] with darker
plots. The best example of this is the graphic novel adaptations that are
already in production. Currently, we have Sin
City, Constantine
[Hellblazer], and V
for Vendetta all making their way to hit the big screens
[Constantine is just about a week away]. But, like comics, it seems
that graphic novel adaptations will not stop with these stories.
Even though the film is not expected until 2006, Paramount is already making
headway to get the Watchmen up and promoted. Watchmen
was created by Alan Moore, the same man behind V for Vendetta.
Even though there is absolutely no crew whatsoever for the film, Paramount
still found it necessary to get the Watchmen site up and going.
