007 was shaken but not stirred. Although Casino Royale ($40.6million) lost out to Happy Feet ($42.3 million) at the box office this weekend, it was still a victory for Sony/MGM as Casino was the 2nd largest opening of a 007 picture behind the last film Die Another Day. This is particularly impressive since early reports in the U.K. of Daniel Craig playing the super spy were met with malcontent, to put it mildly. More amazing still, is comparing Casino to Pierce Brosnan’s first Bond film, Goldeneye, which took in just over $26 million.

Casino Royale Fights Happy Feet for Box Office

All in all it was a good sign for Hollywood as the holiday season looks to kick into full gear. Borat ($90 million 3 week total) held on to the 3 spot while the top 10 highest grossing films of the weekend made $23 million dollars more than the previous weekend.

Apparently seeing Chi Mcbride ferment wine in his prison cell and offer it to “Punk’d” alum, Dax Shephard wasn’t on the public’s list of things to do this past weekend. Who would have guessed? The film (if you can call it that) came in at #12, earning $2.1 million.

With no animated movies to get in the way of the dancing Penguins through Christmas, Happy Feat looks like it’s going to earn a few more bucks over the next few months as it is one of the few kid movies altogether that will grace the screens in that time frame.

Stranger than Fiction is having a hard time connecting with audiences across the land as the loack of Will Ferrell’s pasty ass running around has seemingly been damaging to Sony’s earnings as the film has taken in only $22 million in two weeks of release.

There’s a apparently a lot of sick people out there as the independent 8 Films to Die For, the movies so scary that they don’t even have a rating, took the #10 spot off just under 500 screens for a total of $2.4 million.

Stay tuned for updates.
