Since Sex & The City ended, Kristin Davis has been on a role playing movie wives. In The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, The Shaggy Dog and now Deck the Halls, she’s the faithful partner along for the husband or children’s crazy adventure.

Interview: Kristin Davis Talks Deck the Halls

”Not a plan at all,” Davis said. “You kind of roll with what they send you and I just laughed out loud at this script. Then I knew Matthew [Broderick] was involved and I love Matthew and I’ve been a fan of Mathew’s since Ferris. And of course I know him, obviously, so there was an ease in that. I think it’s a kind of mysterious thing. I don’t know why I keep playing these wives.”

Of course she knew Broderick through her former costar Sarah Jessica Parker. Parker was game for a cinematic wife swap. “I said, ‘How would you feel if I did this? Would you think it would be a good idea? Are you supportive? Would it be at all strange? Please talk to me honestly about it.’ And she wrote back, I e-mailed her because I was in LA and she was in New York, she e-mailed back immediately, ‘I think it's the best idea ever, please do it, it would be so much fun, and I want to come see you in Vancouver.’ Which she did, which was like the icing on the cake.”

The Christmas comedy has Davis’s character frustrated with her husband (Broderick)’s obsession with Christmas plans. He wants to keep everything on schedule, and when his neighbor (Danny DeVito) outshines him, he wants to assert his holiday authority. Having fun with the holidays was also important to Davis.

It’s a Wonderful Life is at the top of my list of Christmas movies and our movie is very, very different, and I don’t think anyone could probably live up to A Wonderful Life in terms of a drama,” she said. “But our movie is really funny, I thought. I like that. I think laughter is great and especially laughter during the holidays after you’ve like gone through getting it all ready and buying and all the hectic craziness. I also feel like everyone can go to this movie. The kids can, the parents can go, everyone can go and kind of relate to different elements of it, and I think it’s nice to have things that you can do together.”

Davis also costarred with Kristin Chenowith, who plays DeVito’s wife. “We were ‘The Kristins.’ They would say, ‘The Kristins have arrived on set.’ It was fun. It was odd, though. I have certainly never been on a set where there was another Kristin. And as Matthew said, at least one of us was blonde and one was brunette, so it was easy to tell us apart. And he's worked with her before, too. I did figure out, it was a really big set, with a lot, a lot, a lot of cast members. And if I ever heard anybody saying like, ‘Kristin, come over here!" and if they sounded like at all upset, I would just ignore them and assume that they meant the other one. So that was enjoyable. I don't usually get to do that. I would just be like walking, like, ‘Wha...? Who? Me? You want me? Oh, I thought you wanted her.’”

Deck the Halls opens Wednesday, November 22nd.
