After alerting us to their plans earlier this month, Microsoft went live with their new program that allows Xbox Live users to purchase and download movies and television shows.

The only problem was that the system was more popular than expected, which meant more unhappy customers.

Microsoft Fixes Errors for Xbox 360 Movie and Television Downloads

On the Wednesday before the Thanksgiving weekend, Microsoft launched their new service that would allow users to download movies and TV shows for their Xbox 360 over the Xbox Live network.

Though the move was sure to be a strong reminder from Microsoft on why gamers prefers Xbox 360 over the newly released PS3, the Microsoft tech support immediately began to receive complaints from users suggesting slow download speeds, missing films and multiple charges on a single purchase. Fortunately for us, Microsoft quickly jumped on the case and assured XBox Live users on Thanksgiving Day that the reported issues were being looked at.

As of Sunday, Microsoft has reported that "download speeds for most users should be significantly improved across the board," something that suggested other errors had been corrected as well. So far things seem to be back on the right track for the new service and complaints have dropped considerably. If you were one of those who felt screwed by the early workings of the system, Microsoft is offering refunds or other ways to "make-good" with their subscribers.

Warner Bros and Paramount are offering film rentals via Xbox Live, while CBS, Turner and MTV Networks are selling episodes of TV shows.

Xbox Live director, Larry Hryb, admitted that problems encountered were because of "the extremely high number of downloads from the Video Marketplace service over the past 24 hours."

As it turns out, Microsoft may have thought they had something big, they just didn't know it would be this big.

Stay tuned for updates.
