Pulse
From their cars to their horror movies, we just can’t seem to nail it like the Japanese do. Pulse is a Japanese remake that begs the question, is all of this special effects hurting the ability to make a really scary horror movie? It wasn’t the acting, because it had some decent actors, Kristen Bell (TV’s Veronica Mars) and Ian Somerhalder (he was on Lost) to name a few. It more had to do with the absurd premise of the movie and the over the top scares. Anyone can come behind you and bang a pot behind your head and you’ll be scared. But if someone keeps doing it, you’ll most likely get pretty annoyed.
DVD Review: Pulse
Ghosts are sucking the life out of their villains through whatever electronic medium: the internet, cell phones, etc and people who are asked “Do you want to meet a ghost?” on their computer NEVER stop and think, “No.” Hot chicks making stupid decisions are great in porns, but it gets a bit old in horror movies.
On top of that, this movie goes a little too far with the message. Maybe it was a subtle ploy to get us to stop downloading movies illegally or we will have the life sucked out of us, I don’t know. The movie itself looked like it was shot in an aquarium tank with nothing but hues of grays and blues. Firing through in less than an hour and a half leaves no time for real plot development but it somehow is enough time to doom the world. Interesting. I say, save your money. You’d have more fun raising your pulse playing hop scotch than watching this movie.
