Sci-Fi Wire recently had a chance to talk to Tom
Cruise and put an end to the rumor that Cruise may be playing the part of
Marvel's Iron Man.
Tom Cruise Not Made of Iron
New Line is currently working on adapting Marvel's comic book Iron Man,
and it was rumored that Tom Cruise would be seated as the starring role.
When confronted with Sci-Fi wire, during a break in War
of the Worlds shooting, Cruise bluntly states "It's
not happening. Not with me." While I do love Tom Cruise, considering
everything film he is in is good to great, I could not see him as Iron
Man and am glad he turned down the part. I am also wondering if he
also saw that he was not made for the Iron Man part as well.
Cruise, while claiming that he is out, does point out that the Iron
Man film will still go forward and continue to look for a man to fill
the leading role. Here is some of what Cruise said below:
They ... came to me at a certain point, and you know, when I do something, I want to do it right. And, you know, if I commit to something, it has to be done in a way that I know it's going to be something special. And that ... as it was lining up, it just didn't feel to me like it was going to work.
I need to be able to make decisions and make the film as great as it can
be, and it just didn't go down that road that way... I've never just made
a movie to make a movie. I've always made them because I really was interested
in the story. I wanted to make that kind of picture and see what it would
take, and it was an adventure for me. For that, it just wasn't panning out.
So far. You know, as of yet.
