Wood is a Hobbit, Frodo Baggins
With all The Hobbit talk going on the past couple of months, it was only a matter of time before some of the Lord of the Rings cast stood up and voiced their opinion. And who better than Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) and Gandalf (Ian McKellen)?
Wood and McKellen Announce Jackson Support for The Hobbit?
MyMovies recently caught up to both Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood and got both the actors to give a bit of their own opinion towards the Jackson-Hobbit conflict. Since Jackson has been announced to be a Hobbit himself, the only fitting option would be to allow this Hobbit to direct The Hobbit. Capiche?
"If [Peter] ultimately doesn‘t come back because of what New Line has done I think it would be a great tragedy. I think it‘s ultimately quite foolish for New Line to move forward assuming they can create an equally wonderful film without Peter…and I think for that for fans that‘s tragic," Elijah told us, adding "For a long time I never kind of imagined that these movies would ever be made, so if they do get made I think they should be made by Peter."
"I don‘t think it‘s ultimately over though, I think the arguments still up in the air. There‘s talk that New Line will ultimately lose the rights to ["The Hobbit"] and that the rights will fall to the Saul Zaentz company..."
The very wise Sir Ian McKellen did not have as much to say, but did admit that it is hard to picture a Hobbiton without Peter Jackson.
"It‘s hard to imagine any other director matching his achievement in Tolkien country."
As pointed out by Elijah Wood, it does seem that the best bet would be the return of The Hobbit property back to Saul Zaentz.
