Don't call it a comeback. After only finding success with the Shrek franchise, Eddie Murphy has now taken two big steps to get his unanimated mug back on the bigscreen.
Murphy to Return to Beverly Hills Cop IV
After showing us that he can still be funny in person with Norbit, Eddie Murphy now plans to team up with Paramount and return to the role that helped him go from famous comedian to famous actor -- Beverly Hills Cop. Sure, Beverly Hills Cop III may have been the franchise's Rocky V, but maybe they are hoping to go back to the level of I or II with the next installment, Beverly Hills Cop IV.
The project is already out to writers in order to quickly get Murphy back as detective Axel Foley (queue theme music). It turns out that Murphy has always been attached to the project, if and when Paramount ever decided to move forward with the fourth installment.
The first two Beverly Hills Cop installments were a hit at the box office thanks to Jerry Bruckheimer and his late partner Don Simpson. The original took in a worldwide box office of $315 million while the sequel followed up with$300 million.
The Bruckheimer-less third installment only grossed $44 million domestically, which was expected considering it should have been titled Beverly Hills Cop III: A Craptastic Sequel. Seriously, what the hell happened with that one. Unfortunately for Paramount, Bruckheimer is much to busy to come back and produce the fourth installment.
