Dyllan Christopher and Gina Mantegna in Unaccompanied
Minors
Gina Mantegna plays the hottie in Unaccompanied
Minors, popular girl Grace Conrad who's the schoolboy crush
of dorky Spencer Davenport (Dyllan Christopher). Real life boys would do
best to brush up on the work of her father, Joe Mantegna, before putting
any moves on the little lady, even though she did turn sweet sixteen on
the set of the film.
Interview: Gina Mantegna on Unaccompanied Minors
"There were several parties and the day we
were shooting, there were actually like tons of extras that day," she
said. "So it was actually crazy, crazy but it was a lot of fun. We
went and had a birthday in the morning and then on set and then after the
set, base camp and then at the Elms Creek. It was good."
Working on a big budget film brings out the adult in a young actor like
Mantegna. "It's not even the sense that we want to be older and we
want to act more mature. We kind of have to in the sense that we are working
with these very important people that need to get their work done. Even
though [director] Paul [Feig] loves to have fun, he had a vision at the
end of the day that had to be fulfilled. As much we love to be crazy kids,
we all have our serious side."
Feig still knew enough to bring out the kid in his performers though. "It
was cool because we knew we were cast for the part obviously. I was cast
for Grace Conrad and we were going to play those roles but he really wanted
us to incorporate ourselves and people that age. He wanted me to play like
a 15-year-old. He really wanted us to be able to identify with the character
and to be able to just make it real, make it actually come to life."
Grace is a somewhat spoiled girl who doesn't take
too well to adults telling her to stay put. "I can definitely identify
with her sarcasm, her sense of humor and her confidence. I think we all
have a little bit of Grace Conrad in us, wanting to be pampered."
But when Grace tries to escape to the airport spa, Mantegna draws the line.
"I really don't like spas that much to be incredibly honest. I don't
know, like people getting their makeup done and their hair. It's nice for
a little bit but no, that's one part of Grace Conrad I can't really identify
with."
She did, however, relate to a scene in which Grace reveals she wears glasses.
"I think we all have a little dork in us. Of course I felt like a dork
with those glasses on but it was fun. I lived it up. I took the chance."
