Letters from Iwo Jima
Though we still have a little over a week before the release of Eastwood's Letters from Iwo Jima, it turns out that a bunch of critics in L.A. have already seen the film and, instead of giving us some snippets, have already announced Iwo Jima the best picture of 2006.
Letters from Iwo Jima Best Picture of 2006?
The L.A. film critics have finished debating which film is best of 2006. Though it originally looked like an easy squeeze for The Queen, Warner Bros decision to push the release of Letters from Iwo Jima forward to 2006 provided both domestic and foreign competition.
The Queen did end up winning awards for actress (Helen Mirren), supporting actor (Michael Sheen), screenplay (Peter Morgan) and music (Alexandre Desplat), but it lost the title of best picture to Letters from Iwo Jima. The film did get runner-up however.
Though Letters was a hit, Eastwood was unable to snitch the director prize, which went to Paul Greengrass for United 93.
Letters from Iwo Jima opens to theatres on December 20th.
