Spider-Man 3 Spider-Man 3
Though the only thing that comes to mind when we think Tobey Maguire is tight red outfit and Spidy senses, the actor does have a few other projects in the works. One such project coming our way is The Good German, and what a better time to discuss Spider-Man 3?

Sometimes the press just can't help themselves.

Tobey Maguire Talks Spider-Man 3 Symbiote

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times on The Good German, Tobey Maguire switches topic near the end to discuss the symbiote, or what he refers to as "goo", in Spider-Man 3.

Now, what just about every one of you should know is that this symbiote does not only take over Peter Parker for an extended period of time (the "goo" has the ability to shift into different outfits) but gives him enough power to put him into some type of 'roid rage'. Once Peter rids himself of the suit, along comes Eddie Brock who not only inherits the suit, but its newfound attributes. In short, a clone of Spider-Man!
Though we still don't know if the character that derives from the suit, Venom, will play much of a role as villain in the third Spidy installment, the character will still be important.

"Basically, there's the goo, right? The symbiote which has, like, a dark energy, like the goo from the thing that creates venom." To someone not totally versant in the Spider-Man mythology, Maguire sounds vaguely demented. He realizes it, laughs and backs up. He's not referring to venom, but Venom, "a very, very popular character from the later Spider-Man comics. He has the same kind of attributes that Spider-Man has, but he's just stronger, faster and more vicious than Spider-Man. And it comes from this goo that comes from outer space, so first the goo comes and gets hold of me."

According to Maguire, the "Spider-Man 3" story arc was laid out by Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan, and written by 76-year-old Academy Award winning screenwriter Alvin Sargent. At some point, Maguire was consulted. He's known for being opinionated about his characters, and does sound proprietary about his more famous alter ego.

If Columbia Pictures does end Spider-Man 3 with the creation of Venom, definitely expect a fourth installment. Fans will not allow the story of Venom to wither away amongst contract disputes.

Spider-Man 3 opens to theatres on May 4th, 2007.
