2005 Oscar Predictions
With the 77th Annual Academy Awards
just eleven days away, it is time to make the 2005 Oscar predictions. Awards
given by the many recent film festivals have honored almost evenly on all
of the Oscar nominated films; without anyone but Jamie Fox really clinching
an Oscar, this year in Hollywood should be quite exciting.
Here are the 2005 Oscar predictions:
2005 Oscar Predictions
Performance by an actor in a leading role
This Oscar should undoubtedly be awarded to Jamie Fox for
his unforgettable role in Ray. I have just picked
up my copy of the DVD, and no matter how many times I see this film, I still
ask myself whether Ray actually did any of the film. Jamie Fox
did an absolutely superb job.
Performance by an actor in a supporting role
Well, Clive Owens won the Golden globe for this category
for his performance in Closer, and even though
I am still not sure if I even liked this film, I am sticking with the statistics;
the performances in this film were really quite good, though the film was
just messed up-a little disturbing.

Performance by an actress in a leading role
Even though I would like to see, Kate Winslet win for her
work in Eternal
Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, I am having a difficult
time convincing myself that her performance spoke to the hearts of the Academy
more than Hilary Swank's in
Million Dollar Baby. My prediction is Hilary
Swank.
Performance by an actress in a supporting role
This one should be close putting all nominees in suspense until the final
moment, but I think it will be Virginia Madsen of 2004's
enduring comedy, Sideways.
Best animated feature film of the year
The Incredibles will
incredibly take home this Oscar.
Achievement in art direction
The remarkable comedy staring Johnny Depp, Finding
Neverland, should just barely walk away with this one. Like
I stated earlier, this year is a tough year, because there were a lot of
good films, and this category is a tough one. A
Very Long Engagement would not surprise too many people
with an Oscar win, but I predict that Neverland will win.
Achievement in cinematography
Again this is a tough category, but the winner for it will be The
Aviator.
Lemony Snicket's may pull in some Oscar awards.
Achievement in costume design
This I think is probably the best chance for Lemony
Snicket to win an Oscar; I predict it to be the winning
film.
Achievement in directing
The one that is most concerning to everyone. Well, let me first start off
by saying that I am just as big a fan of Scorsese as anyone.
He has helped shape the movie world just as much as anyone and is probably
more deserving of an Oscar collection that most, however, Clint
Eastwood will win the Oscar for this category. His work in Million
Dollar Baby is on some other level and it is just unfortunate
that the greatest director in American Cinema today, (Martin Scorsese)
who put out another great film, will get beat by a better film made by a
director with a small resume and shorter career (directors career that is).
Best documentary feature
The relevance of this film should be cause enough to just get it to the
finish line first. SuperSize Me should take home
the Oscar for this one.
Best documentary short subject
Hardwood will win in this category.
Achievement in film editing
The spectacular Scorsese film will win in this category-The
Aviator
Best foreign language film of the year
The Oscar will go to The Sea Inside
Achievement in makeup
The Passion Of The Christ should undoubtedly win
in this category.
Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original score)
Finding Neverland will grab its second Oscar in
this category.
Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song)
"Al Otro Lado Del Rio" from the Motorcycle
Diaries is my prediction.
Best motion picture of the year
Again I feel it is the enduring quality of Million
Dollar Baby that will lead to its Oscar success over The
Aviator.
Best animated short film
Gopher Broke will win in this category.
Best live action short film
Two Cars, One Night will drive away with the Oscar
in this category.
Achievement in sound editing
The Polar Express won't go away empty handed,
this will be there category to win.
Achievement in sound mixing
Ray will win another in this category.
Achievement in visual effects
I Robot should take home the Oscar for this category.
Adapted screenplay
The Motorcycle Diaries will win for this category.
Original screenplay
This is actually my most anticipated category. I absolutely loved Eternal
Sunshine For The Spotless Mind and strong feel that it
will win in this category. An absolute original film.
CanMag will host real time Academy Award Updates on the night of
the show. |
