Judges really do have quite a bit of power. After screening the movie himself on Wednesday, his honor gave the greenlight to Universal to go ahead with its theatrical release of Alpha Dog which is tentatively scheduled for a January 12th release. Murder suspect Jesse James Hollywood (I can’t believe that’s his name), on whom this film is based, didn’t exactly agree with the judge’s decision and pleaded against it for obvious reasons.
Alpha Dog Ruled Green by Judge
Hollywood and his attorney, James Blatt, feel that they will be hard pressed to receive a fair trial if the movie was released. You do have to feel for the guy a little bit since the Deputy District Attorney, Ron Zonen, “acted as a consultant and participated in the creative process of developing the screenplay…” according to Blatt.
Now I’m not a lawyer but I can’t imagine that a district attorney sharing information about a case that hasn’t even gone to trial yet has to unethical if not downright illegal, but who am I?
I think Mr. Hollywood is shit out of luck since the movie stars Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone, and Justin Timberlake. Names like these don’t make movies that don’t get seen. Well, unless you count Basic Instinct 2 and Striking Distance as movies that no one ever saw.
In case you didn’t know, Hollywood is the guy who was the youngest man ever on the FBI’s most wanted list. Something tells me that you’re doing a little more than shoplifting to get on that list. He currently is being held for the 2000 kidnapping and murder of Nicholas Markowitz over an alleged $1200 drug I.O.U. Hollywood fled the country after the charges were laid down on him and was later captured in Brazil.
The trial should start sometime in 2007.
Alpha Dog opens to theatres on January
