Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest shot itself to the top of the DVD sales list this past week by selling 10.5 million copies for the week ending December 10th. No movie has made more in its first week on sale this year. But this Paris Hilton of an analogy brought her friend Britney out too! Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was actually the #9 selling DVD this past week, 3 whole years after it partied with us for the first time.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Curse of the Black Pearl Take Extra Booty
The Pirates series seems to have quite the asphyxiation on the DVD world’s throat. Although it was only released in December, it looks like Dead Man’s Chest will be the top selling DVD of the year. What the hell movies came out this year? Gone Fishing? Not only that, but the sequel looks like it will pass it’s original version in most DVD sales ever, which currently stands at 18 million copies of both DVD’s and VHS tapes.
Of course not only do we love a blabbering, heat stroke having Johnny Depp, record sales of the DVD have been reported in the U.K and Japan. In the latter, it is already the #1 live-action movie DVD of all time. I can’t believe The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift doesn’t claim that title over there.
