Rosario Dawson joined celebrities Jessica Biel and Matthew Perry in announcing the Golden Globe nominations the morning of December 14. Although she did not receive any nominations for her films, she was happy to see so many Spanish language films receiving props, like Volver and Pan's Labyrinth.
Rosario Dawson Talks Golden Globe Noms
"I think it's fantastic actually," she said. "I remember I went to see Pan's Labyrinth and I was like, you know, they're doing such incredible things and risky stuff with even a children's story, just really going there and exploring myth and exploring violence and exploring all the different things that used to be a part of a lot of old children's stories and stuff like that but we kind of diluted it down. The only reason they could do half the things in that movie was because it wasn't made in America. So I think it's interesting that we're looking towards European films and seeing something that's more entertaining to some extent because they're taking different risks that a lot of people aren't allowed to make yet."
Dawson feels the nominations show how strong Hollywood still is. "I think you have everybody from Robert Duvall, Ben Kingsley. We're getting pretty much incredible people who are getting nominated. It's not maybe sometimes as surprising when we do get the nominations in because there are so few movies that really stand out every year, so I think the competition is going to be really intense between those people but I think sometimes it's interesting to see people who get excited about a particular nomination which I think sometimes you kind of look into it and go, "Well, you know, maybe I kind of foresee that because there was not a lot of other films for them to choose from." That's why it's actually very interesting to see all of the European films being nominated because I think that's kind of interesting that we're looking a lot more outside of ourselves, more so than usual."
The busy actress will have to catch up on her viewing over the holidays but she's happy for her colleagues. "I haven't seen a lot of the stuff so I can't really say, but I love most of the people who are nominated so I'm very excited to really check up on them and see what they're doing right now. I think it was really nice actually seeing Matthew's face when he got his nomination so I thought that was very cool."
