Night at the Museum
Even with the substantial competition, Ben Stiller's comedy, Night at the Museum, still finished strong over the holiday weekend and is looking to approach $40 million by the end of Christmas.
Night at the Museum Takes the BO
It turns out that Rocky's biggest challenger wasn't Tarver, but Ben Stiller. Night at the Museum was able to take in an estimated $30.8 million over the weekend and is looking to score another $10 million more thanks to a little holiday known as Christmas.
Will Smith still had some pulling power and kept Pursuit of Happyness at number two while Rocky Balboa opened up in the number three spot. The Good Shepherd, a yawn-inducing film that is at least being called interesting, was not far behind at number four.
Each of the four films was hoping for a strong weekend considering the release of two hyped films -- Black Christmas and Dreamgirls -- this Monday. OK, OK, more Dreamgirls than Black Christmas, but you get the gist.
Rocky Balboa was supposed to be the film to track, but the film's total cume since its Wednesday opening is only at $26 million. But then again, how much can it possibly cost to creating a CG-lacking boxing movie? Didn't the original installment only cost somewhere near one-million?
Nights at the Museum, which did have an expanded budget for CGI including one life-size dinosaur skeleton, should hold strong through the New Year.
