Pirates sails around the world.
I have got to say-- it is amazing how many ways
distribution companies figure how to market their films. We have trailers,
we have television, we have special TV spots, we have the internet, we have
soda, and now we have boat races?
What is Walt Disney Pictures up to?
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Race
Walt Disney Pictures has teamed up with Volvo in
marketing Pirates of
the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. To help promote the film,
Disney will have a Pirates sail boat join the Volvo Ocean Race. This means
that sailors will have to look at a Pirates one-sheet sail for 31,250 nautical
miles!
Obviously, this is a huge marketing step for Disney
as not only will the Pirates boat get tons of coverage during the
nautical race, but it will also be seen on a global scale.
Dick Cook, the chairman of Walt Disney Studios had this to say about the
event:
We're excited to be participating in the prestigious Volvo Ocean
Race, which is very much like the 'formula one' of yacht racing. This is
a fun and unique way to remind viewers all over the world that 'Pirates
of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' will be sailing into theatres next summer.
Given the film's high seas adventures and nautical themes, this marathon
sporting event is a great way to make some waves and generate awareness
among the millions of viewers.".
Here is to that!
