Thomas Church will be the next villain in Spider-Man
Earlier this week we posted the rumor that Chloë
Sevigny may be doing the part of Black Cat as the villain in the next Spider-Man
movie [read here]. Well, push
that rumor aside, or assume she will play a second villain, as Sony has
announced the actor [male] who will play Spider-Man's feature nemesis in
Spider-Man 3.
Thomas Haden Church is Venom
If you don't know who Thomas Church is... he was
an academy award nominee and co-starred in Sideways [coming to
DVD next month]. He is better known for his highly eccentric and humorous
personality.
Even though this has NOT been announced or confirmed, expect Church to be
playing the role of Eddie Brock, who later becomes Venom. In the first article
I wrote about Sam Raimi's hopes for a villain [read
here], I practically begged that the next baddie be Venom [easily
one of the best villains from the comics]. And, if you remember from Spider-Man
2, they mention Eddie Brock's name... allowing for possible character
creation later.
Eddie Brock was another photographer/journalist
that despised Peter Parker. During this same period, Peter Parker discovered
a space material/liquid that not only bonded to his skin, but allowed him
to take on any outfit and have even more strength and power. However, the
side effect of the alien symbiote is similar to steroids. Peter had begun
to go into small fits and rages and soon realized that the symbiote was
changing him for the worst.
As a solution, Peter throws off the symbiote in order to get back to his
common red/blue outfit. However, Eddie Brock soon finds the rejected material,
which now has clones Spider-Man's abilities. Once Brock uses the outfit,
he is given the same abilities as Spider-Man, and he is stronger.
It is like Spider-Man vs. Spider-Man.... sweet!
Stay tuned for updates. Spider-Man 3 Movie Page coming soon.
