Oliver Twist
To no ones surprise, more or less, Oliver Twist
is being adapted onto the silver screen, or remade, depending on how you
look at it. It was done once before by David Lean in 1948, and I am sure
that most of you have sat through it in a high school English, however,
this version should be nothing like its predecessor.
Academy Award winning director, Roman Polanski will be directing this adaptation of one of Charles Dickens' most famous novels, and he is fixed on bringing a new twist into this story.
Back to Oliver Twist
"We are not going to strive for realism; quite the opposite. The characters in this story are larger-than-life with the emphasis on their glorious humor and eccentricities. This is a Dickensian tale in the truest sense, which means it is exuberant, intriguing and timeless. And it is full of incident that is constantly surprising."
Needless to say, we can expect a lot from Polanski; one of his last films,
The Pianist, received critical acclaim from around the world, was
awarded seven Academy Awards, including best director, and a plethora of
other prestigious awards from across the globe.
Staring in Polanski's adaptation of Oliver Twist is: Ben Kingsley,
Frank Finlay, Jamie Foreman, Barney Clark, Lewis Chase, Frances Cuka, Jake
Curran, Harry Eden, Chris Overton, Leanne Rowe, Mark Strong, Jeremy Swift.
Robert Benmussa is the executive producer on this project and Sony Pictures
is production house. This film is scheduled to release on September 30,
2005.
Unfortunately production shots, film shots and trailers are yet to be released, but be sure to check back with us as these are made available because the expectations of this film are quite high; this is one of the greatest novels in 19th century literature, and Roman Polanski is one of the best directors of his time.
