Ocean's Twelve comes to DVD
Tomorrow (Tuesday April 12) is a big day for movie
releases. Some entertaining and quite excellent films are making their way
to stores as I write this article and will be available for rent or purchase
tomorrow. A few of the films that demand immediate attention are: Criminal,
Hotel Rwanda and Ocean's Twelve.
DVD Tuesday: Film
Criminal was a fast-paced drama with enough
twists and turns to make you dizzy, but the real interest of this film was
its unique portrayal of Los Angeles. Many films are shoot right in the heart
of the entertainment capital of the world, yet few have successfully captured
the city as an outsider turned insider (someone who moves to the city from
outside of it) would see it. One of the most interesting parts of this portrayal
was on a city bus. Normally a Los Angeles city bus would be depicted as
a cesspool of diversity with enough languages being spoken that you may
not even be able to hear yourself speak, but what criminal did was show
you that if you ever ride on a city bus in L.A. then you may not be able
to speak to a single passenger because they probably don't speak your language.
It was scenes like this that truly did Los Angeles justice in its portrayal.
Criminal stars John C. Reilly (Chicago and Gang's
of New York) and Diego Luna (Open Range and Y Tu Mama
Tambien) and was directed by Gregory Jacobs, who assisted on both Ocean's
Eleven and Ocean's Twelve. This was his directorial debut.
Hotel Rwanda was a captivating drama that stars Don Cheadle (The
Assassination of Richard Nixon and Swordfish) and was directed
by Terry George (Hart's War and Some Mother's Son)
Hotel Rwanda is a story of the Rwanda genocide of 1994 and how
a hotel owner attempts to save as many people as he can. I will refrain
from going into any more detail than that because the film should just be
seen for yourself with a clean slate, or at least clean from any subjective
opinions.
The DVD of Hotel Rwanda features: Available subtitles: English,
Spanish, French, "A Message for Peace: Making Hotel Rwanda" documentary,
"Return to Rwanda" documentary, Commentary by director Terry George and
the real-life subject of the film, Paul Rusesabagina, Selected scene commentary
by actor Don Cheadle and Select commentary by musician Wyclef Jean.
Ocean's Twelve was the anticipated sequel of Ocean's Eleven,
but, at least in my opinion, didn't live up to its expectations. It was
an entertaining film, even though it didn't have that quick fun feeling
that the first one had.
The story picks up where the first left off and ands some interesting characters, but didn't provide any unseeable twists. Keeping with pretty much the same group, who I am sure you all know, this film stars Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, don Cheadle and Casey Affleck, and was director by Steven Soderbergh. The DVD edition features: Available subtitles: English, Spanish, French, Available, Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround), French (Dolby Digital 5.1) and the Theatrical trailer.
