A while back we posted that betting was occurring
on who would be the next character to die in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood
Prince. When bets on Dumbledore surged, the betting halted for a few
days to try to find if there was any foul play. However, considering that
no one supposedly knows who dies except a few including JK Rowling, the
possibilities for each character is still very high.
Half-Blood Prince Death Report
Macleans
has a wonderful article, and poll, about the next character to die in Harry
Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Not only do they allow guessing from
readers, but the site also offers a breakdown on each character and the
probability that it is each characters turn to go. Each probability, which
offers a member of the Weasley family as most likely, is followed by an
amusing paragraph on why the writer feels that the character(s) are likely
or not likely to die.
To see what I mean, check out a couple snippets below:
95%: any member of the Weasley family
They are too poor, too good (except the sycophantic Percy) and too numerous
not to suffer. Molly Weasley, the mum of the family, is the likeliest candidate.
It won't be easy; it took five of Voldemort's Death Eaters to kill her brothers
Gideon and Fabian Prewitt. If not her, then one of the jokester twins, Fred
and George. Harry's friend Ron will live.
75%: Albus Dumbledore, Hogwarts headmaster
Yeah, it's obvious, but that doesn't make his death any more unlikely. He's Obi-Wan Kenobi to Harry's Luke Skywalker, complete with long sweeping cloak. Just substitute wands for light sabres and he dies the good death. Or . . .
75%: Minerva McGonagall, Hogwarts deputy headmaster
The professor was seriously injured by four "stunner" curses in the last book. Elderly and virtuous is a dangerous combo. If Dumbledore lives, she dies.
