I understand that we have Potter fans and then
we have Potter fans. But when the term 'muggle' found its place in Dictionaries,
I could only attempt to begin to comprehend the type of pull these books
actually have. Well, it seems like I better start comprehending a little
more, as the Oxford Primary Dictionary plans to use a lot more of Harry
Potter.
Harry Potter Dictionary Quotes
According to a report by the Guardian
Unlimited, the Oxford Primary Dictionary plans to use quotes
from various Harry Potter novels as examples of word use in a sentence.
I know this sounds crazy, but check out some of what you can expect below:
Insolent, adjective- very
rude and insulting
Malfoy gave Professor Lupin an insolent stare, which took in the patches
on his robes and the dilapidated suitcase. -Prisoner of Azkaban
Haphazardly
Mrs Weasley was clattering around, cooking breakfast a little haphazardly, throwing dirty looks at her sons as she threw sausages into the frying pan.
According to the Oxford Primary Dictionary's editors,
they state that '[good authors] provide wonderful citations for dictionary
definitions because the language and vocabulary they employ is straightforward,
descriptive and helps children to understand meaning and context right away.'
Interesting. Now lets just hope that we don't see terms such as 'Dobby,'
'house elf,' and 'Blast-Ended Skrewts' start showing up as well.
