We all knew that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood
Prince was going to be bought off the shelves quicker than Ginny can
fire a jelly legs jinx, but the question remained on whether the 'in-store'
purchases would be able to beat out the book's predecessor, Harry Potter
and the Order of the Phoenix. Well, considering that reports claim
that HBP is the best Potter book yet, it comes as no surprise that
the sales were somewhat higher for the first 24-hour period.
Half-Blood Prince Sales Report
According to reports that are spreading like wildfire
across the web, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince sold 6.9
million copies during the first 24 hours on bookshelves; somewhere Scholastic
and JK Rowling are running around screaming 'cha-ching cha-ching!' What
this further means is that 250,000 Half-Blood Prince books were sold per
hour. I mean DAMN! I can't even comprehend those types of sales.
With these numbers, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was
able to outdue Order of the Phoenix' sales of five million copies
in the first 24 hour period. However, it is good to note that Scholastic,
in preparation of increased sales, supplied more Potter novels to retail
book chains this time around. On the release of Harry Potter and the
Order of the Phoenix, some bookstores did run out of books to sell;
slightly skewing its sales numbers.
How many books were printed you ask? Lets just
say the number of copies printed for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood
Prince was somewhere in the ballpark, or should I say Quidditch Field,
of fifteen million.
I am currently working to finish reading Harry Potter and the Order
of the Phoenix for a second time and cannot wait to get my hands on
HBP.
