Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
A lot of rumors have begun to appear online for the seventh book in the Harry Potter franchise. Though we still think 7-7-7 a fitting release for the seventh book (read more about that here), it is hard to say with the relatively few updates from Rowling. Fortunately for us, the author has recently been stirred out of her domain by rumors she thought she must correct.
JK Rowling Updates on Book 7 of Harry Potter
A couple weeks back the Daily Mirror reported that they had caught up with JK Rowling and confirmed that the author had already written 750 pages of the seventh Harry Potter installment.
750 pages! Unless this book is going for epic length -- which it most likely will with all that is left for Potter to accomplish -- the number would have one think that Rowling is nearly finished. Well, as it turns out, the number reported was incorrect. JK Rowling recently posted this update over at her official site:
JKR has written 750 pages of book 7, and told a journalist this at the tea party for 'Driving Lessons'.
Oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. I haven't written 750 pages of book seven, and if I had, I'd be very worried, as I'm not close to finishing it yet.
I was at the tea party for Driving Lessons, though, so this isn't pure fiction. The journalist reports that I said that Rupert is 'absolutely terrific' in the film. He is, so that bit shouldn't be in the rubbish bin at all.
But there's more! By leaving fans in the dark for so long on the upcoming book installment of Harry Potter -- something that usually results in false rumors -- JK Rowling has finally released a new update on her official site with details on her progress with book seven. She doesn't mention how many pages she has wrote or how many to go, but there is enough info to get the gist.
Now that I'm back from New York, the only real news is that I'm continuing to work hard on the book. I've done quite a lot, and I'm really enjoying it, though every now and then I look up and realize that it's THE LAST ONE. You might think I'd have got used to that idea during the sixteen years I've been planning seven books, but it still keeps hitting me... no more Harry after this... and then I bury myself in book seven again and tell myself I've still got plenty to write.
The heightened security restrictions on the airlines in August made the journey back from New York interesting, as I refused to be parted from the manuscript of book seven (a large part of it is handwritten, and there was no copy of anything I had done while in the US). They let me take it on, thankfully, bound up in elastic bands. I don't know what I would have done if they hadn't; sailed home, probably.
I am currently trying to decide between two possible titles. I was quite happy with one of them until the other one struck me while I was taking a shower in New York. They would both be appropriate, so I think I'll have to wait until I'm further into the book to decide which one works best.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens to theatres on July 13th, 2007.
*We are still hoping that the seventh Harry Potter installment wil be released on July 7, 2007 (7-7-07).
