Superman Returns
Warner Bros. is starting to get cracking on the next Superman installment and, though the project has been in gestation for years now, they are still sticking to the working title of Man of Steel. What has changed, however, is David Goyer's involvement. Well, possible involvement.
Goyer's Man of Steel
David Goyer is in final negotiations with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures over writing a new script for Man of Steel. The studio is hoping to act fast, as they need to get a new Superman film to theaters by 2013 or they lose their copyright of the character.
Goyer seems like the logical choice for Warner Bros, considering that he helped bring back the Batman franchise by contributing story elements to the scripts for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. I for one love Goyer for his scripts, though projects typically tend to go downhill when he becomes more involved. Goyer delivered two fun Blade installments before bringing the franchise down by directing Blade Trinity; the worst in the franchise. The Unborn and The Invisible weren't all that good either.
Not to badmouth him outright, so I'll conclude by stating that he is a great writer and a solid pick for the next Superman, especially since he plans to take the franchise a new direction.
According to sources close to the companies, Goyer pitched a more action-packed idea that involves Superman battling archnemesis Lex Luthor and super villain Brainiac -- far different than the original story that was seen in Superman Returns in 2006.
