The project, which sees Glenn Close reprising her award-winning stage role as a woman who must pass as a man to survive life in 19th century Ireland, marks the actress's producing debut.
To help make the cast more ensemble, Michael Gambon and Janet McTeer have also been cast.
Garcia will begin filming on location in Dublin this June.
