The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It
When The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It arrived, I knew I was going to watch it. Even though it’s not even by the Meet the Spartans guys and it didn’t even go theatrical, I love spoofs and there are certainly enough Apatow movies to qualify as a genre. They throw in the Twilight and Benjamin Buttons too.
DVD Review: The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It
I must say this one entertained me. It’s so immature it has no pretensions of greatness. The opening credits pretty much won me over. There’s the inherent conundrum of spoofing a comedy. If it’s already a joke, the only thing to do is take it way overboard. So they do. It certainly favors the gross whenever possible. Still I enjoyed the relentlessness of its immaturity. The people really look the real actors. In fact, the Jonah Hill guy could really be Jonah Hill, and the Seth Rogen guy really sounds like him.
Put it this way. I didn’t turn it off or put it on 1.5 speed. I turned off Stan Helsing because it was just not amusing. 41-Year-Old Virgin is enough immature fun to watch for 80 minutes. At least they do it straight faced, not preening around. It’s got a good spirit about it, where they’re having fun but they don’t seem to think they’re super clever. It’s kind of sweet how the pretty girls and goofy guys mess around in this world.
