Johnny Depp is the Mad Hatter
Finally, this is the way I wanted to watch Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Not necessarily in HD or Blu Ray, but in 2D without glasses on. Yes, the latest technological format delivers again.
On Blu-Ray: Alice in Wonderland
The picture is perfect, as a modern day mostly digital construction to begin with. The surreal visuals shine in HD with the twisted details and wild colors of Burton’s version of wonderland. There’s plenty of detail in the digital characters and backgrounds, as well as the sets and wardrobe. The frogs and the caterpillar are particularly detailed.
The film works in 2-D. You still appreciate the scale of big and small Alice, the space of the rabbit hole, the disproportionate Red Queen’s head. It’s got the full range from dark and twisted to pure white and multi-colored in between, but each stage holds together faithfully in this quality.
