Inception
Looking at how well Inception did during the week, I had no doubt in my mind that the film would hold off Angelina Jolie's Salt and remain on top of the box office for a second weekend.
Second Weekend Win: Inception
Christopher Nolan's Inception dropped a miniscule 31% in its second frame to $43.5 million, easily beating out the $36.5 million brought in by Salt. Almost catching up to its stated budget, Warner Bros has already earned back $143.7 million in the US alone. The foreign box office, which continues to see the expansion of Inception, is also doing incredibly well with $56.7 million from 38 territories.
Inception saw a considerable gain Stateside on Saturday, up 26% compared with Friday's $13.2 million take, which Warner prexy of domestic distribution Dan Fellman attributed in part to increased interest among older moviegoers. Last weekend, the film debuted with 73% of auds aged 35 and under.
Though Salt fell short, Sony still has to be pleased with the film's opening numbers. The box office should be happy too, as the action-packed weekend boosted the frame 8% over the same frame last year.
My prediction for next weekend will be that Inception wins again. Stay tuned...
