Fox has recently joined the New Year's Eve television game with their New Year's Eve Live show. Cat Deeley will host this year for the second time in a row, in the show's only third airing. The glamorous British host may sport another fur coat like last year, and a designer dress.
Cat Deeley Hosts New Year's Eve for Fox
"It’s actually a nightmare to even get one coat because I actually don’t do fur," said Deeley. "It reminds me too much of bunny rabbits that I used to have as a child. You can never get amazing fake fur coats, so I always have to get these fake fur coats made with ski lining inside to go over my little dress. I know that last year there were lots of comments like, 'Oh, is she wearing real fur?' Absolutely not. I absolutely don’t do that. And in honesty it’s a nightmare for me to try and get it all made and get it all done. I really don’t want anybody to think that I am. Then I think I’m wearing a dress by a British designer called Jenny Packham."
Warm clothes are a must on the streets of New York in December, but last year's unseasonable weather caught Deeley by surprise. "I have it specially made, actually because I’m terrified that I’m going to be freezing cold and just be a real grouch and be all Grinchy about New Year’s so I have it specially made so it’s got an extra lining in it, which is what ski jackets have in them too. Last year I was actually boiling hot because it was quite mild. So I’m hoping that it’s not going to be too mild and not too cold either."
Fox's Spike Feresten joins Deeley interacting with the crowd on the streets. "I actually met him very, very briefly at a Fox party and he whipped me up a fantastic cocktail. So I know that even if it all goes horribly wrong, I’ve got somebody to mix the drinks. I think it will be great. I’m a big admirer of his comedy and I think there’s lots to be done down there on Times Square so I think it will be a great balance hopefully."
Deeley is happy to be part of an American institution, because this country has been good to her so far. "What I really, really love about America is I like the sense of anything could happen. If you’re a success, as a race of people you very much accept it. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what your background is. You don’t have a class system. You don’t have anything like that and what I like best is the idea is that the American dream is still very much alive and kicking. To me, I could be completely wrong because I’m a British girl who has just come in there, but to me it very much feels as though that is still alive and if you work hard enough and you’re patient about it, and you have some flair and natural talent and a little bit of luck, anybody can become anything in America and that’s what I like."
Fox New Year's Eve Live airs December 31st on Fox.
