About a week before Christmas a rumor surfaced claiming that Marlon Wayans was in negotiations to play Heavy Duty in G.I. Joe. The rumor was quickly confirmed to be false, but that did not mean he was out on the project entirely.
Marlon Wayans a G.I. Joe
Heavy Duty - No. Ripcord - Yes.
Marlon Wayans has been picked up by Paramount to play Ripcord, the leader of the military unit. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently in negotiations to get drafted as well.
Though the plot details remain top secret, we do know that Stuart Beattie penned the screenplay based off earlier drafts from Paul Lovett, David Elliot and Skip Woods. The war-themed story will take place 10 years in the future.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who produced the cartoon-toy adaptation Transformers, will produce G.I. Joe alongside Brian Goldner.
Paramount plans on getting G.I. Joe in theaters on August 7th, 2009.
