Universal Pictures has picked up Salma Hayek to play the title female role in Cirque du Freak, a horror drama that will mark her first acting role since maternity leave.
Salma Hayek for Cirque du Freak
Hayek will star opposite John C. Reilly in Cirque du Freak, who will play a vampire who drafts a 14-year-old to serve as his assistant. The youth is turned into a half-vampire and becomes the catalyst in a battle between vampires and the rival Vampanese. Universal Pictures will have to downplay Hayek's looks a bit, as she will play Madame Truska, the bearded lady.
Paul Weitz is directing the film, which is based on the bestselling 12-book children’s series by Darren Shan.
